A Reflection On The Jade Buddha Temple - 1547 Words

One of the best approaches to acquire a perception of Buddhism religion is to immerse yourself into it. For the midterm assignment, I had the opportunity to immerse myself into a religion that is interfaith. Through my interfaith visit, at the Jade Buddha Temple in Houston, Texas, I was able to learn about Buddhism. The Jade Buddha Temple is headquarters for the Texas Buddhist Association (brochure). It is located minutes away from Houston, China town. It was constructed in 1990. The same year, the Jade Buddha Temple had its Inaugural Ceremony on the second of June. The following year, the Jade Buddha Temple opened a two story Youth Activity Center (brochure). The Youth Activity Center is used for cultural, educational, charitable, and social activities (brochure). The temple consists of the Youth Center, Grand hall, which is the largest building and is home to the Jade Buddha statue, Kwan Yih Hall and a courtyard for meeting and mingles, after Dharma talks and special events. The Jade Buddha Temple is devoted to teaching Buddhism. Its mission is to spread the right view of Dharma, by offering Dharma talks, and discussion groups. It is open daily to the public. The Jade Buddha Temple has a Buddhist study and research center for many different educational institutions in the Houston area.
